High-Level Committee Submits Tax System Reforms Report to Government

Kathmandu: The High-Level Recommendation Committee on Tax System Reforms has officially handed over its comprehensive study report to the government.

Today, the Committee presented the report to Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, marking a significant milestone in addressing tax system issues. This committee was established in accordance with a provision outlined in the budget statement for the fiscal year 2024/25.

Former Finance Minister and Finance Secretary Bidhyadhar Mallik led the committee, with support from members including former secretary Laxman Aryal, Dr. Ram Prasad Gyawali from Tribhuvan University's Central Department of Economics, and customs expert Ram Prasad Dahal.

The thorough 258-page report, accompanied by 140 annexes, was meticulously prepared over a period of six months. It covers a wide array of economic topics, offering recommendations on revenue mobilization enhancement, job creation, tax law reforms, tax rates, tax administration improvements, and revenue structure enhancements.

Upon receiving the report, Finance Minister Pun assured the government's commitment to implementing the insightful suggestions provided within. He emphasized the report's timeliness, particularly in light of the current fiscal challenges faced by the government and the urgent need to attract both domestic and foreign investors to stimulate maximum investment in the country.
